Throughout the week, I pray that you have noticed and felt a new sense of peace come over you. I certainly have experienced the peace of the Holy Spirit in a powerful way this week. When difficult situations have emerged, I found that I did not react to them in fear, anger or despair. My internal center of balance seems to have shifted, for the better, to a more peaceful place. I truly believe the spiritual experience of fasting has loosened me from some of the patterns of thought and behavior that bind my spirit and my connection with God. Being bound to Christ in this new way has truly set me free to live as a more loving, forgiving, and connected person to God and to others in the world.
Gracious God, you are full of mercy and forgiveness and love. Only in your Reign can becoming bound set us free. O Lord, for those in our community, including ourselves, who are bound to the wrong things: to addictions, to success in human eyes, to self, to the desire for more, to gluttony, to greed, set them free by the power of your holy Spirit. Turn their eyes upon Jesus, the one whose yoke is easy and burden is light. Continue to draw them close to your heart of love.
